Recently I have been reading a book from the Norwegian author, Jostein Gaarder. The book is called: “The Orange Girl”.
“The Orange Girl” is a modern story with a philosophical theme. It is the story of the eleven year old boy, Georg, who has lost his father at the age of four. While he barely remembers his father, suddenly his grandmather found some papers from his dead father, a letter which is written to him. A letter from a dead father. The papers contain a mestrious story of Georg’s father unconventional love with an elusive young “orange girl”, while on the other side representing profound questions regarding the meaning of life, love and universe.
The story is easy to follow and sweet, it leaps back and forth between the father’s letter to the future, the Georg’s thoughts and the events of the father’s life and finally it leaves George with some deep questions about life and the existence philosophy to solve.
One of the most amazing characteristic of the book that I am impressed with is the creativity of the author in showing us how the human being imaginations can easily fly beyond the limited ordinary lines of life. For those who like philosophy, life mystery and a passionate love this book is a MUST READ.
